* Modification: Use 0.02 g/l NaNO2. Use 100 - 150 ml medium in 300 ml Erlenmeyer flasks with metal caps. The medium has to be prepared 2-3 days before inoculation. The final pH should be 7.4-7.6. Inoculate 1 ml per flask and incubate the culture in the dark without stirring. It might take several weeks until the nitrite is consumed.
